Why Water Preservation is Important?

Water preservation is important to ensure the future generations and life on Earth will have a chance for surviving. Fresh water is a limited resource

Water Preservation

Water is one of the most important substances on earth and water preservation is important because all plants and animals need water to survive. If there was no water there would be no life on earth.

Water is also essential for the healthy growth of farm crops and farm stock and is used in the manufacture of many products.

Drinking water have many other uses for people, including:

  • cooking
  • washing their bodies
  • washing clothes
  • washing cooking utensils
  • keeping houses and communities clean
  • recreation; such as swimming pools
  • keeping plants alive in gardens and parks

What is Water?

Important: the water that people drink and use for other purposes is clean water.

Water is an inorganic, transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colorless chemical substance, which is the main constituent of Earth’s hydrosphere. It is vital for all known forms of life, even though it provides no calories or organic nutrients. Its chemical formula is H2O.

How to Do Water Preservation

Why Water is Important?

The human body contains from 55% to 78% water, depending on body size. To function properly, the body requires between one and seven liters of water per day to avoid dehydration. You only have to lose around 10% of your blood volume to make your heart work too hard and other organs in the body start to shut down.

When you become dehydrated the body detects the change in the concentration of chemicals in your tissues, the brain tells you to seek out water and drink. This will then restore the balance.

Liquid water is present on Earth, covering 71% of its surface. Only about 2.5% of the Earth’s water is freshwater, but only 31% of it is accessible for use. Almost 70% of the freshwater available on Earth is in form of glaciers and ice caps and located in places like the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets.

You need water for circulation of blood, distribution of other nutrients, neurological functions, cooling via sweat, waste disposal, proper function of your lungs, and as a solvent for digestive enzymes and acids.

Food and water are both very important. However, if you stop eating you will be able to fast for a while. Without drinking, water people can survive only a few days.

You need water to grow crops, animals need crops to feed on and on and on. If you didn’t have water you wouldn’t have food. Water is the base of any life on earth and to sustain that life you need water.

Water is important for several reasons:

  • Being a Universal solvent, it dissolves very many molecules, as compared to many other solvents.
  • As it has the highest sp. gr. (except ammonia) it helps in maintaining a constant air temperature over most of the globe.
  • Life has its origin in water & the higher forms of life are successors to these forms.
  • Even if 2% of water is lost from the human body, the individual would collapse.
  • Human body at the maximum can tolerate only 3 days in a total absence of drinking water.
  • Most of the diseases, especially communicable ones, are spread through water.
  • Only about 2.5% of the total water on Earth is fresh, out of which only 1% of that freshwater is available to humans directly. So the resource is to be managed utmost carefully.
  • In absence of water, more arid zones & deserts are increasing their areas, in some cases even smothering agricultural lands.
  • It has been found that 50 thousand sq. kilometers of forest can attract rains in that particular region.
  • Thermal stratification is limited to only upper layers in a lake, just because ice is a bad conductor of heat, otherwise, life in lakes reservoirs, ponds would have to an end.
  • Some of the African tribes know by experience as to where to find potable water in arid regions, & are able to sustain themselves through ages.
  • Due to the global rise in temperature and unpredictable seasons, flash floods & precipitation could occur any time, any place – with such a scenario – conservation of water is going to be a major problem, the world is going to face.

Life On Earth Would Not Exist Without Liquid Water

Water is a critical part of most of the chemical reactions that are required for life.

Since we have limited access to fresh water on Earth is important to preserve it in the best possible way. We need to maintain healthy river systems.

The demand for freshwater is unlimited. We always need more water for agriculture. Seawater can also be desalinated but it is a really expensive and entry-consuming process. In the future desalination will become much more vital for many countries.

When the water is polluted by humans, it pollutes all the environments that it passes through. This includes polluting the soil, the water table, and eventually the rivers and oceans that it passes through.

Eventually, the water will evaporate and the water vapor will become rain. Even then, it can absorb pollutants in the air and cause the environment to become polluted. This would include sulfur compounds and mercury from coal-fired power plants, and nitrates from automobiles.

In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans; in one aspect of You are found all the aspects of existence.

Kahlil Gibran Jr.

Water gets recycled to earth. But the air is polluted and the earth is polluted. Rivers are polluted with drainage water.

Everyone Can Contribute to Water Preservation

The population is projected in the next 30 years to grow to over 9.5 billion. Water preservation is important since clean and fresh water is a limited resource.

Note: The average person uses up to 152 gallons of water per day, compared to only 39 gallons used per day in the UK, 23 gallons per day in China, and 4 gallons per day in Ethiopia.

Water preservation is the practice of using water efficiently to reduce unnecessary usage. There are many ways water can be preserved, reused, recycled. Small changes such as reusing water from rinsing out the coffee pot for outdoor plants can make a huge difference in reducing and reusing water in a more wised way.
